In the Greek myth Zeus punished the titan Atlas (greek: Ἄτλας „bearer”) for revolting against the god´s with carrying the world on his shoulders. With one step his world could collapse. He stands still with hanging head. His back is bowed and the muscles are tense. I took all these heroes: Hercules, Achilles, Atlas… as a metaphor of power and heaviness and combined it in 2014.
The projekt visualizes the body language of power. I am interested in the interplay of muscles and mental energy. Constantly withstand the burden. Release energy.
I ask for the meaning of a personal Stop in our fast world. Photographic bodystudies show different man carrying heavy weights until they cave in. Stop them moving and catch the tense motion.
The modern man in the role of Atlas, who carries the world on his shoulders, Either holding it up high, pushing it away, or being desparate. Is he able to do this in 2014? I don´t challenge the stereotype of the modern man as a protector. I want to test the men.
